Annual summit set for March 26 at Pullo Center

The YorkCounts annual Community Summit is March 26 at the Pullo Family Performing Arts Center on the campus of Penn State York. This year’s summit will include the release of the 2010 YorkCounts annual report, along with presentations on the United Way’s Stay in School Report and an update on the York Academy Regional Charter School, both of which grew out of YorkCounts recommendations. Lynn Cummings, a community organizer whose efforts in Pennsauken, N.J., are the focus of a documentary, will provide the keynote address. The summit runs from 9 a.m. to noon. To register, send an e-mail with your name and phone number to summit@yorkcounts.org or call the YorkCounts summit registration line at 650-1450.

Charter school approved

The three school districts that heard the proposal to establish the York Academy Regional Charter School all voted to approve the charter. Votes by Central York and York City boards were unanimous, and York Suburban's vote was 6-3. It is believed to be the first charter school in the state to be approved by three school districts.
